I like the transparent one on the right. Will you be able to see your location on the map (indicated by small arrow) and watch your location on the map move while your are wandering around? or will it be just open map, view location, close map to continue game?
Hey, Bri! The truth is this is really the map of the WHOLE world, depicting small scaled 100 thousandx100 thousand squares in 100x100 / 1 pixel. The guide map of where you walk will be another thing. But yes, I plan to add a sign of your location in both neighborhood and whole world map later. The whole world map will be available by pressing key, small map will be on screen just like this transparent example on the screenshot.

I've added a transparent HUD node to the corner of the screen (into JME's ortho render queue). Looks much better, check the shot. :)
